Technologies we love (and hate)

Over the years we have embraced, adopted and occasionally rejected (for various reasons) a wide range of technologies, environments, development platforms and frameworks.

Given free rein and with no special use case in mind our standard choice is pretty much 'the' standard... LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP). This most popular open source 'stack' is mature, secure, fast, widely supported (by bother developers and hosting companies) and simple. It lends itself to rapid development, is both easily scaleable and capable far beyond most needs cases.

For more esoteric applications (or simply for legacy support) we also undertake development in and / or support the following SQL and noSQL database platforms:

  • MongoDB - the document orientated nosql
  • MS SQL - Microsoft's RDMS
  • MS Access - Microsoft's RAD 'db'
  • PostgreSQL - that other opensource thingy
  • DynamoDB - Amazon's cloud based scaleable MySQL equivalent
  • Oracle - Sun's very grown up offering
  • Cassandra - the high perfomance nosql used by Twitter et al
  • CouchDB - JSON orientated scaleable nosql
  • SQLLite - small fast embedable SQL

'Languages' we work in include:

  • PHP (but we said that)
  • Javascript
  • HTML, XHTML, HTML5
  • Perl
  • ASP (classic & .NET)
  • Actionscript
  • C, C++, C#
  • Pascal (OOP, Delphi, etc.)
  • Visual Basic (VB, VBS, VBA)
